  Fluorometer or fluorimeter is an instrument used for luminescence analysis. It measures the intensity of luminescence. A fluorometer contains a source for exciting the luminescence and a photometer. Fluorometer measures the fluorescent radiation emitted by a sample which is exposed to monochromatic radiation. The radiation source could be a mercury-arc lamp or a tungsten or molybdenum X-ray that has passed through a filter. Fluorescence is used in determining the presence of a biologic molecule and its quantity in a medium. Fluorometers have the capability of detecting the concentration of fluorescent molecules up to 1 part per trillion. Fluorometers quantify, detect, and monitor analytes and their reactions by measuring the fluorescent signal from dyes attached to biologic molecules as well as naturally fluorescent molecules, based on wavelengths of excitation and emission.
