  Transparent conductor refers to transparent films of conductive material which are optically transparent in nature. The transparency of the conductor depends upon the material which is used as a film on the transparent substrate. The most commonly used electrically conducting materials used by the optically transparent conductors include cadmium oxide and indium oxide. Multilayer transparent conductors are conductors which use more than one material in order to enhance the overall conductivity of the transparent conductor. The use of multiple oxides enable the development of transparent conductors which are suitable for specialized applications owing to the fact that the electrical, optical, chemical and physical properties of the transparent conductors can be controlled or modified by altering their chemical composition.
